Udp1, Fire
Udp1 is a protein sequence isolated during a doctoral study in molecular biology, more than twenty-five years ago.
Here, Udp1 is translated into sound. Each amino acid is mapped to music through its physical and quantum mechanical properties and then developed into a composed arrangement in which the protein's structural features are articulated through different instruments. The resulting audio drives a real-time sound-responsive environment: a volcanic landscape in perpetual motion, shaped by the protein itself.

Udp1, Water
A written artist statement, reflecting on the personal cost of scientific research and the passage between two lives, is converted into a pseudo-protein sequence through the genetic code, then translated into music using the same rules as the Udp1 sequence.

The work is a message that travels both ways through time.
The two pieces sound together: sequence and thought, past and present, science and art meet in sound as a common language.
